Instrumental Angels: Changing Lives One Instrument at a Time
At Note-worthy Experiences®, we believe in the transformative power of music – and we’re proud to partner with organizations that share that belief. One of those incredible partners is Instrumental Angels, our own nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that every child who wants to play an instrument has the chance to do so, regardless of their financial circumstances.
What is the mission of Instrumental Angels?
Instrumental Angels began with a simple observation: thousands of gently used instruments are tucked away in closets, basements, and attics, while thousands of students long to join a band, orchestra, or take lessons – but lack access to an instrument.
How does Instrumental Angels bridge the gap?
Instrumental Angels collects donated instruments, works with skilled technicians to refurbish them, and places them directly into the hands of students, schools, and community programs in need.
To date, over 10,000 instruments have found new homes. Some stay right here in Massachusetts, while others have travelled as far as Sierra Leone. Each one represents a student who now has the opportunity to learn, grow, and shine through music.
What are the benefits of providing students in need with instruments?
Music education is so much more than learning to play notes on a page.
- It helps young people develop confidence, discipline, creativity, and emotional expression.
- Students involved in music are more likely to stay engaged in school and build supportive peer relationships.
Yet, when school budgets are reduced, music and arts programs are often the first to be cut.
Instrumental Angels ensures that financial barriers don’t become musical barriers.
One recent story says it all:
A middle school student in Lawrence received a refurbished violin from Instrumental Angels last year. She shared that it made her feel “seen”- like she finally had something that was truly hers. Today, she is the first chair in her school orchestra.
That is the power of access.
How does Instrumental Angels collect and distribute all the instruments?
It’s a community effort.
This work is made possible through partnerships with schools, music teachers, repair technicians, and community organizations who believe that music should be accessible to everyone.
