Teaching Philosophy

“Every student is different, so teaching requires patience, kindness, and adaptability. I strive to make learning meaningful by understanding each student’s interests and finding creative ways to engage them, making the lessons work for them.

As a young music student, the important moments were not the scales, etudes, or even performances, but the moments when I realized what I was capable of; the moments when I saw what I could do and gained the confidence to keep moving forward. Many of these moments were nurtured by teachers who saw my potential before I saw it in myself. Without their belief in me, I would not be the musician or person I am today.

I want to be that kind of teacher for my students. I teach with the firm belief that every individual has great potential. Whether or not they pursue music, I want to help my students believe in their own abilities and help them be able to put their mind to something, do it, and be proud of what they’ve accomplished, because the confidence that they gain in learning an instrument can help them realize that they can achieve anything.”
