Teaching Philosophy

“My teaching philosophy centers on meeting each student where they are and guiding them to grow through the music that genuinely interests and excited them. I emphasize both creative exploration - through improvisation and student-led ideas - and a strong foundation in traditional music theory, including reading notation, understanding harmony, and communicating musically. All of my teaching leans into the particular learning modalities that work best for each student. I balance disciplined skill-building with more open-ended jam-based playing to create expressive musicianship in whatever style the student is playing. My overall goal is always to help each student develop both proficiency and with their own unique artistic voice. Lesson plans (individually and in groups or modules) are custom designed to support each student’s unique path toward becoming a confident and capable musician.”
