Teaching Philosophy

“To me, the role of a music educator is to teach with clarity and purpose, and to inspire a lasting love for music that enriches my students’ lives. I aim to create a learning environment where students feel safe and supported in expressing their emotions, ideas, and identities through music. Building strong personal connections with each student and understanding their unique needs is essential, as I believe all students are born with unlimited potential.

In my teaching, I value thoughtful pacing, moving with energy and momentum while ensuring students fully understand each concept. My instruction centers on how students learn best, with a focus on retaining and applying their skills. I work to help students develop their musical skills and confidence, enabling them to feel comfortable performing, creating, responding to, and connecting with music in meaningful ways. To do this effectively, I must know my students so that my teaching is relevant and impactful.

Music offers us an alternative form of communication. It teaches us about diverse cultures, histories, and perspectives, and allows us to contribute to a larger community. As a music educator, I am dedicated to showing my students how music can create growth, expression, and a sense of belonging.”
