Biography

Krissy is a passionate advocate for music and music education as forces that enhance the human experience. She believes in the transformative power of music-making for her students, helping them discover and define their musical journeys. A proud graduate of the Fredonia School of Music, Krissy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Flute Performance, having studied various instruments, including band instruments, piano, voice, and strings. While she’ll always put flute and piccolo as her favorites, she admits a particular fondness for percussion, trumpet, and voice. She recently earned a Master’s (MM) in Flute Performance from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. There, she discovered what it means to go beyond performance and the classroom, and to be a multifaceted performer and individual.

Before pursuing her graduate studies in Boston, Krissy taught middle and high school band and then served as an elementary band director in Buffalo, NY. There, she discovered her passion for teaching younger students and realized she had the energy and humor to match. Krissy has taught private flute lessons for nearly a decade and has always enjoyed working with students in one-on-one and small group settings. Since relocating to Boston in 2022, Krissy has taught woodwinds, brass, and piano in various settings, including large- and small-group lessons and one-on-one sessions. Krissy’s experience teaching private lessons to diverse students across multiple age groups, combined with her passion for working within public school systems, gives her a strong foundation of knowledge and creativity in her teaching approach. She loves teaching private lessons, where she can design engaging lessons while forming lasting bonds with individual students.

In recent years, Krissy has had the privilege of performing with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Flute Center of New York Virtual Choir, the Sinfonisches Verbandsjugendorchester Ortenau, Germany Youth Wind Orchestra of Ortenau, and the El Sistema Boston Side-by-Side Orchestra. She has also performed for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Musician’s Masterclass on piccolo and has had her chamber quintet, the Lyra Quintet, coached by Imani Winds, a Grammy-nominated group. Krissy has performed several works with new composers, including a piece involving a wire strung between different string instruments and pottery. She recently performed at the 2024 Early Music America Festival with the Longy Baroque Flute Ensemble, her debut as a Baroque musician playing on a period instrument.

Having grown up with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Krissy often faced challenges in traditional learning settings; however, similar to many peers, she discovered a sense of belonging within the music department. This space enabled her to progress at her own pace and express her creativity and talents. Krissy believes that every student is distinct and unique, just like every note they play. She is dedicated to creating a nurturing, encouraging atmosphere where all students can thrive and feel capable of learning music, ensuring no one ever feels labeled ‘unteachable.’

Krissy began teaching in 2016 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in January 2025.
