Teaching Philosophy
“I believe that music is a powerful tool for connection, self-discovery, and personal growth. Every student has a unique voice and a unique story to share, and my role as an educator is to help students discover, develop, and confidently express that voice.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that strong musical foundations are built through a balance of technical skill, creativity, curiosity, and joy. Whether working with a beginner discovering music for the first time or an advanced student preparing for auditions and performances, I strive to create an environment that is encouraging, challenging, and supportive. Students learn best when they feel valued, respected, and empowered to take risks.
As a vocalist and conductor with over 25 years of experience, I emphasize healthy vocal technique, musical understanding, and expressive communication. I believe that technique is not an end goal, but rather a pathway that allows musicians to communicate with greater freedom and authenticity. Through thoughtful exploration of repertoire, students develop not only their musical abilities but also confidence, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for the artistry of music.
I believe music education extends beyond learning notes and rhythms. Participation in music fosters empathy, collaboration, perseverance, and a sense of community. In both private lessons and ensemble settings, I encourage students to listen actively, support one another, and understand the importance of their individual contribution to a larger musical experience.
My goal as a music educator is to inspire lifelong musicianship. Whether students pursue music professionally or simply carry it with them throughout their lives, I hope to leave my students with greater confidence, creativity, and a lasting love of music.”
Biography
Jessica Zamek is a classically trained soprano, jazz vocalist, and seasoned educator based in the Boston area. With over two decades of experience performing and teaching, she brings a vibrant mix of artistry, technical mastery, and deep musical intuition to every lesson and stage. A native of Maine, Jessica began her journey as a church musician and has served as a section leader, children’s music director, and frequent oratorio soloist. Her classical foundation is complemented by a deep love for jazz - she’s fronted both big bands and intimate combos, building an extensive and diverse repertoire.
Jessica earned her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Western Connecticut State University, studying under Dr. Margaret Astrup. She later pursued graduate studies at The Hartt School of Music with Mary Mac and Jerome Pruett, performing under renowned conductors Josh Greene and John Koch. Her passion for global music exchange led her to perform in France at La Roche D’Hys as part of their prestigious international artist program.
Jessica teaches beginning piano lessons, as well as combined piano and voice lessons for students interested in developing both skills in an integrated, supportive environment. Most recently, she traveled to Austria as a guest clinician, where she worked with individual singers in masterclasses and ensemble settings. She continues to perform regularly throughout the United States, most recently with the Connecticut Lyric Opera and Salt Marsh Opera. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, exploring new vocal genres, or just beginning your musical journey, Jessica is known for meeting students where they are - with warmth, encouragement, and a deep commitment to their growth.
Jessica began teaching in 2000 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in July 2026.
