Biography

Originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Garrett Wallace is a multi-instrumentalist in the greater Boston area. They started taking piano lessons when they were 4 years old - after they climbed up on the piano bench and started trying to teach themselves how to play, their mom rushed them next door, where the neighbor ran a piano studio. Their enthusiasm for learning new instruments only intensified over the years. By high school, Garrett added the saxophone, clarinet, bass, voice, ukulele, guitar, accordion, and flute to their growing arsenal. Garrett moved to Boston after high school to attend Berklee College of Music, where they graduated Summa Cum Laude with a dual degree in (BA) Music Education and Composition and a minor in Conducting. There, they studied Clarinet and Saxophone with Harry Skoler and Shannon LeClaire; flute with Wendy Rolfe; composition with Mari Epstein, Beth Denisch, Jeffrey Means, James Smith, and Panagiotis Liaropulos; and conducting with Eric Stern and George Monseur. After Berklee, Garrett completed their Master of Music at the American Band College

Garrett is a band director and teaches general music electives in Lexington. They play electric bass and write music for a now international experimental rock project “ROGOZO!”, and perform on the upright bass and vocals in their Bluegrass and Old-Time band “The Splinters,” performing in the New England area including at the prestigious Thomas Point, Podunk, and Joe Val Bluegrass Festivals, and the Ossippee Valley Music Festival. Garrett is also a freelance multi-instrumentalist and has been asked to play for various pit orchestras and contemporary classical performances around Boston.
