Teaching Philosophy
"I believe in inspiring excitement and curiosity in my students. I always want to be a guide to my students' own unique journey through music, helping to find their voice and challenging them to try hard at it. I'm always excited to share new ideas and sounds in music to see what sparks interest in each individual student. Music is such a wonderful thing, and with a little guidance and some sustained effort, it opens up new worlds."
Biography
An Alabama native, Connor Vance is a multi-instrumentalist and a lover of all styles of music. He began studying piano at age 6 and later pursued classical piano in college, earning a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Composition from the University of Alabama. He continues to enjoy songwriting and composing, often encouraging his students to explore their own compositional voices.
Connor's love for rock, hip-hop, and pop inspired him to study drum set at a young age. After college, much of his professional performance work has been supporting rock and jazz bands as a drummer. Once he began playing rock and pop, he couldn't stop and taught himself the guitar as well. Endlessly curious, he approaches music and various instruments with an open mind and a steady focus.
A serious student of both classical and popular styles, Connor strives to draw on the critical lessons each offers, enriching his playing and that of his students. Connor currently gigs around town as Connor Cay and plays guitar in a rock band called The Skirts.
Connor began teaching in 2012 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in 2021, where he teaches online lessons.
