Teaching Philosophy

“Music, to me, has always been a reliable means of being able to feel, process, and understand my emotions and the world around me. As an AuDHDer (autistic and ADHD together), I have personally experienced how music can be used as a teaching tool that allows for more neurological connections to be made that would have been difficult or impossible to make with other means. I plan to return to school to pursue a board certification in Music Therapy. I enjoy working with neurodiverse students because I understand firsthand how our brains learn and how to navigate the unique struggles of being neurodiverse. It is endlessly meaningful to me to help bridge the gap between traditional teaching methods and the needs of neurodiverse individuals, informed by our modern understanding of how our brains are wired differently. Not broken, just different.

I focus on making lessons approachable and on encouraging curiosity, creativity, and confidence at every stage of learning. I enjoy helping students connect the fundamentals of music to songs and styles they’re excited about today, because that excitement keeps them engaged and eager to learn more. My goal is to create a welcoming environment where students feel supported as they develop their musical voices, fostering a positive, motivating atmosphere.

Biography

Brian began his musical career at age 10 through the Westford School’s band program and private drum set lessons. While attending Westford Academy, he participated in as many performances as he could, ranging from concert band, symphony winds, and marching band to a cappella groups, percussion ensemble, jazz/rock bands, and musical theater. While attending UMass Lowell, he also picked up guitar, bass, and ukulele, which he became particularly fond of. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music Studies (BM) in 2017. He has an eclectic list of musical influences, ranging from Green Day and Rush to Rebecca Sugar and Jonathan Coulton. He is also particularly fond of anything you’d find in a “nerdy/geeky” category, like music from cartoons/anime and medieval-style bard music you’d hear in the background at a Dungeons and Dragons table.

Brian is the drummer for the Praise Band at the United Methodist Church of Westford and for the Experimental Ensemble of Cape Cod, an all-original jazz/fusion ensemble. He also recently performed drums, ukulele, and live Foley sounds for The SpongeBob Musical at Quisisana Resort in Maine.

Brian began teaching in 2018 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in April 2026.
