Teaching Philosophy
“For me, teaching and performing share the same foundation: Being fully present in the moment. Music carries a legacy of remarkable performances and inspired creativity, and teaching brings that legacy alive while preparing students to shape its future. I approach every lesson mindful that what happens in our time together is the student’s present-day version of their dreams.
My philosophy centers on collaboration. Learning music is not passive, nor is teaching simply the delivery of information. I encourage students to engage actively, and hold myself to the same standard by responding to their experiences, questions, and insights. Every lesson takes on its own personality, so I adapt my lesson to the student or students in front of me—shaping the materials, pacing, and the moment's context to meet students where they are in their journey. When students feel valued and respected, they are more willing to contribute, often creating unexpected learning moments for everyone, myself included.
To me, each classroom and individual lesson is like an ensemble performance. Just as I support, respond to, and create space for others to shine on stage, I strive to strike a balance between guidance and freedom in teaching. At times I lead, at times I accompany, but always I aim to create a collective experience that inspires students, builds their confidence, and leaves them feeling they have been part of something meaningful.
Ultimately, I want students to discover their own joy in music and develop the confidence to express themselves authentically. I hope that these qualities extend beyond the practice room or stage—that the creativity, discipline, and collaboration they cultivate through music will serve them throughout their lives. If students carry that confidence and joy into their future experiences - whether or not they pursue music further - I will consider myself successful as a teacher.”
Biography
Bill Champitto is a Boston-based singer, pianist, songwriter, and Hammond organist whose career bridges soulful artistry with decades of professional experience. With three solo albums and an extensive studio resume, he has crafted a sound a recent review described as “soul funkified jazz”—a dynamic blend of soul, jazz, blues, rock, and pop.
Bill’s journey began early: by age 15, he was performing professionally, and by 17, he was touring nationally. His artistry has since been recognized with a 2012 nomination for Best Jazz Act by the New England Music Awards, affirming his reputation as a dynamic voice in the New England music scene. Bill graduated from Berklee College of Music.
Known for his energy, versatility, and commanding stage presence, Bill adapts seamlessly to a wide range of audiences and settings. He performs with his full band, as a soloist, or in an intimate duo with percussion. His performances combine extraordinary musicianship with powerful vocals, and his repertoire spans both his original catalog and an expansive collection of covers reaching back more than eight decades. His eclectic influences include Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Santana, Billie Holiday, Tower of Power, and countless blues, rock, fusion jazz, and pop innovators who have shaped his sound.
Throughout his career, Bill has shared the stage with artists such as Paula Cole, James Cotton, and Esperanza Spalding, and has collaborated with members of the Boston Pops as well as musicians who have performed with Sting and Chris Botti. His recordings are available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon.
Today, Bill continues to bring his vibrant artistry to audiences across New England, performing at concerts, festivals, and private events where his music consistently leaves a lasting impression.
Bill began teaching in 2005 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in October 2025.
