Teaching Philosophy
“I believe that teaching requires kindness, humor, respect, and patience. I focus on meeting my students where they are at, allowing them the space to discover themselves musically. Their needs and interests are in the forefront, and my main role is to use my abilities to guide and provide the best methods and techniques to achieve these goals. Sometimes they do not always see the benefits of the suggested instruction, therefore I believe in clear and honest communication so that we are all on the same page and working towards a mutual objective. Most people seek music as a hobby or pastime, so making sure that we can have fun while making music is a priority.”
Biography
Bernardo Marcondes Rodrigues is a Brazilian-American plucked-instrument performer and instructor. He earned classical guitar performance degrees from California State University, Northridge (Bachelor of Music, Master of Music) and the Eastman School of Music (Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA), where he studied with Dr. Steven Thachuk and Dr. Nicholas Goluses. His studies took him abroad to Germany, where he earned a certificate in performance from the Koblenz International Guitar Competition and Academy, under the guidance of renowned performer and professor Hubert Kaepell. Most recently, Bernardo has taught music at a community music school in Geneva, NY, and has performed and recorded solo guitar and with several ensembles, including a classical guitar duo and trio, a Brazilian choro group, and the Rochester Mandolin Orchestra.
Bernardo began teaching in 2009 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in September 2025.
