The Distinguished Artist Track is Note-worthy Experiences®’ premier enrichment program for students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their musical growth. This free annual program runs from January 1 through December 31. Unlike programs that recognize ability alone, this track celebrates the whole musician. Students who combine talent with consistent effort, personal responsibility, artistic curiosity, and a positive attitude are eligible to apply.
Students in the Distinguished Artist Track receive individualized guidance, expanded performance opportunities, college and career preparation, and mentorship designed to help them reach their highest artistic potential. Whether a student’s goal is to pursue music professionally or simply become the strongest musician they can be, this program provides a challenging and rewarding path for continued growth.
Admission Requirements
Students may apply to the Distinguished Artist Track. To be considered, students must submit an application and receive a recommendation from their teacher. Admission to the track is subject to approval through the annual review process. Students accepted into this track are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment throughout the year.
1. Teacher Recommendation
Teacher recommendation is based on the student’s overall development, including:
- Musical ability and artistic growth
- Consistent work ethic
- Positive attitude and professionalism
- Healthy practice habits
- Readiness for additional challenges and opportunities
2. Lesson Commitment
Students should be enrolled in one of the following:
- 45-minute weekly lessons (minimum)
- 60-minute lessons for high school students pursuing conservatory or music scholarships
3. Annual Lesson Minimum
Students should complete a minimum of 45 private lessons each year. Make-up lessons count toward this requirement.
4. Practice Expectations
The goal is consistent growth rather than strict tracking of practice minutes. While progress is measured by the quality of a student’s development – not simply the amount of time practiced – regular practice is still essential. The guidelines below provide a general expectation for the amount of focused practice needed to support steady progress.

5. Performance Participation
Students are expected to participate in performance opportunities throughout the year, including:
- Studio recitals
- Community outreach performances
- Performance classes or masterclasses
6. College & Career Workshop
Students are required to attend Note-worthy Experiences’ free annual College Music & Career Planning Workshop, which explores topics such as:
- Conservatory and university music programs
- Scholarship opportunities
- Building a resumé
- Audition preparation and video recording
- Summer music festivals
- Gap-year opportunities
- Careers in music performance, education, business, audio engineering, and arts administration
These sessions provide valuable guidance for students pursuing music professionally as well as those wishing to continue music alongside other academic or career goals.
7. Musical Engagement Beyond the Studio
Students should participate in at least one additional musical experience each year. Examples include:
- Music Teacher National Association (MTNA)
- Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM)
- Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)
- American College of Musicians Piano Guild
- Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO)
- New England Piano Teachers Association (NEPTA)
- School band, orchestra, or choir
- Jazz band
- Chamber music
- Musical theater pit orchestra
- Summer music camps
- Festivals or competitions
- Composition or songwriting events
8. Annual Goal Setting Conference
Each fall, students, parents, and teachers meet for a 30-minute planning conference to establish goals for the coming year. Discussion may include:
- Repertoire planning
- Performance goals
- Festivals and competitions
- Examinations and auditions
- Leadership opportunities
- College and scholarship planning
- Long-term artistic development

Students accepted into the Distinguished Artist Track receive individualized opportunities designed to support their continued growth, including:
- Individualized annual artistic plan
- College audition coaching
- Musical resumé review
- Mock auditions
- Performance video feedback
- Scholarship and summer program notifications

- Teacher recommendation letters, when appropriate
Annual Recognition
Students who remain in good standing and successfully complete each year of the Distinguished Artist Track will be recognized at the Annual Winter Holiday Recital and receive a certificate of distinction. Participation in the program reflects a sustained commitment to excellence and may be included on resumés, scholarship applications, and college applications as evidence of artistic achievement and leadership.
